Mexican Dutch King Mushroom Spores

This strain was discovered in Mexico, then migrated to the Netherlands for further development by mycologists, to be sold in Amsterdam shops for many years. The psilocybin in this Psilocybe cubensis developed a reputation for healing people and ‘cleansing the heart.’ Called Teonanácatl (God fungus) by the Aztecs, it’s been used in Mexico for sacred and medicinal purposes for over 3,000 years.

Description

The unique Mexican Dutch King Mushroom began its life in Mexico, originating from the Psilocybe cubensis or Psilocybe mexicana strains found throughout Central America. In Mexico it’s been used for over 3,000 years for sacred and medicinal purposes. To the Aztecs, this plant was considered sacred and called Teonanácatl, meaning ‘God fungus,’ for Teotl ‘God’ and nanácatl ‘fungus.’

This mushroom strain was then taken to the Netherlands to be further developed by mycologists. In Amsterdam, Holland and throughout the Netherlands, for many years mature Mexican Dutch King mushrooms, or MDK, were sold in stores and cafes until their laws changed. Meanwhile, in the 1960s celebrities like John Lennon, Mick Jagger and Bob Dylan made their way to a curandera or ‘healer’ named María Sabina in Oaxaca, Mexico to be treated with these psilocybin mushrooms.

With an increase in the study of micro-dosing in medical clinical trials for things like Treatment Resistant Depression (TRD), the psilocybin properties of this plant bear further study. Its effects, by those in Mexico who consumed this plant, were described not as an intense ‘trippy’ experience of head confusion or ‘pink elephants,’ but rather as making one ‘feel loved’ and ‘cleaning your heart.’

Studies of MDK specimens continue. Its history of international migration offers a rich exploration for cultural anthropology. Students of taxonomy can compare the cell structures of these spores to the strains thought to be their predecessors. While for biologists and microscopists, the potent micro-structures of this strain are nothing short of fascinating. Its rich rhyzomorphic mycelium is evident in the complexity of its finely interwoven and overlapping strands.

These MDK mushroom spores are truly beautiful to behold under the microscope. Our spores for sale are packed in 10CC syringes, containing only authentic spore clusters of the MDK strain. Not easy to come by in the U.S., this strain is highly prized in microscopy research due to its rich migration history, fascinating cellular micro-structures and the simplicity of its study, even for beginners.
